End of an Era!
So anyways, I'm very lucky to be supported in BMX by a few different companies. One of those companies is Oakley eyewear. I've been on Oakley flow here in NZ for almost 7 or so years, and seen a lot of changes over that time. Oakley has always been at the forefront of 'Action Sports' supporting athletes from a broad spectrum, BMX, skate, surf, snow, Moto X, you name it, they're probably involved in it. Something interesting though, is the history they have in BMX. They were pioneers of not only googles (Used for BMX racing) but they also had an amazing BMX grip, which is one of the most iconic BMX accessories ever. That, and their style was completely off the wall and never seen before, something that suited BMX perfectly!
Anyways, a tough economic environment, changes in marketing, and a big call from the top dogs in Italy have seen the closure of the Oakley New Zealand office. I was very fortunate enough to be invited to their 'last hoorah' party lastnight, and it didn't disappoint! Oakley in New Zealand will carry on, via the Oakley flagship store in downtown Queen Street here in Auckland, which is great. They have ALWAYS looked after me, and I'm a massive fan of the Oakley Frogskin, which, if you didn't know, is one of the most iconic image's from the 1980's!!!!
A huge thanks goes out to Rich and Shelly for looking after me! Here's a couple of pics, including Oakley & RedBull kayaker Ben Brown, dressed as a mexican for no apparent reason
hahaha!
